Privateering Papers - contains all the forms you need to set out on the high seas against the British. A letter of Marque authorized the captain to capture British ships and sell the cargoes at public auction. Not only did a captain need a Letter of Marque, he also had to post a bond. The letter of marque states that the captain has posted a bond and received a copy of the instructions. The Instructions stated exactly how a privateer could legally conduct privateering. I found these three documents in three different states. I believe that this is the first time they have appeared as a set in over 200 years.
