Soldier’s Mailing Kit – – The Adams Express company did a large business before and during the Civil War handling packages and money sent through the mail. Shipping labels were placed on all packages sent to the soldiers. We have also seen examples of military goods sent via Adams Express to various Federal Arsenals. We also have another unique item, the money envelope. If you wanted to send money, you placed it in one of these envelopes, sealed it with sealing wax, and sent it. When the recipient got it, they were supposed to cut the envelope open along the side, preserving the seals to prove that the envelope had not been tampered with. The original envelope we looked at still had the intact seals on it. Our kit contains labels and envelopes. This kit reproduced with the kind permission of the Adams Express Company. Includes: 3 Adams Express shipping receipts, 3 Adams Express package labels, 3 Adams Exp. Money Envelopes
