In 1859 the Beadle Brothers launched a monthly magazine, The Home Companion and Guide. A magazine directed primarily toward women, this magazine featured short stories, poems, topical articles, household hints, recipes, book reviews, advertisements and even a serialized novel (so that you would keep purchasing the magazine). The magazine was popular, but the success of their dime novels caused them to sell off the magazine in 1860 to another publisher.
We have re-created the entire 1859 year, all 12 issues. You may select individual issues or a 1-year subscription. If you select the subscription, we can send you all 12 issues at once or send you one per month for 1 year.
