Dime Recipe Book
Dime Recipe Book ? Originally published in 1861, this book was sold as a Companion to the Dime Cook Book. This book is not a cook book, but rather a book of recipes for household products and toiletries. The book includes recipes for carpet cleaner, furniture polish, hair treatments, tooth powder, skin ointment, cosmetics, perfumes, glove cleaner, mildew remover, canning fruits and vegetables, coffee substitutes, wines, soap, glue, ink, and more. Also contains a section on medical remedies. 97 pages plus ads, Facsimile Reproduction
Evidently the title caused confusion even in 1861, since the Beadle Brothers saw fit to put “Companion to the Cook Book” at the top of the cover.
